The
demand for rice, especially here in the Philippines, is high for some reasons
that Filipinos could not live without it. Rice is part of the country's
culture. Rice is the main food source in the country. Filipinos tend to supply
themselves enough to content their needs despite the controversial costly
price.
The
Philippine's population also greatly contributes to rice consumption. For
the government to satisfy the demand, rice supply must be enough. Unfortunately,
rice production in the country is not sufficient that’s why the government
imports rice from other countries. Importing this product would cause price
increase.
Natural
disasters and occurrences such as the El NiƱo Phenomenon and typhoons affect
the rice production in the country because farmers cannot attain their desired
quality. Therefore, supply would likely decrease. And price would still be
affected.
On
the other hand, the Department of Agriculture, the International Rice Research
Institute and other organizations find solutions to the crisis of rice production.
Programs, Campaigns, and Technology contributed by these groups could make a
difference.
With
proper knowledge on how to control the rice production and consumption, the
Philippines would come to rice self-sustaining making it available to everyone
at a much cheaper price.
